Old town, Stockholm

“middle mark”

I missed the point here. Is it something I didn't see/feel or it just didn't grab me, I don't know. I just didn't feel THAT excited, like most reviewers. I've seen places with better atmosphere and surrounding than this. Other attractions in Stockholm caught my attention, this was just ....yawn.
Bottom line: you should walk the streets, and "feel the atmosphere" but if you don't , well at least you tried.

Cathedral, Stockholm

Trangsund 1,Gamla Stan, Stockholm, Sweden  Website
“Inside”

...richer than outside (as everything else in Sweden).
Boring exterior, and nice and warm interior. Although I am more of baroque/rococo person this is a major example of brick Gothic architecture. Inside, elements of various styles are added to decorate interior. Come here, look around, if you're lucky (as I was), there will be a choir practicing for concerts, and you might even enjoy the concert of sacral music in great sacral object. See the schedule for these appointments.

During this visit, something interesting happened and I caught it on video. You may see it here:

Pizzeria Al forno, Stockholm

Drottningsgatan 88, Stockholm, Sweden
“Decent”

3 of 5 stars

I had a daily meal here, and it was average pasta. Small, almost cosy restaurant with nice street window to sit in in rainy afternoon. Italian-wannabes owners are kind and quick.

Riddarholmen, Stockholm

Norra Riddarholmshamnen (Formerly Insel Riddarholmen), Stockholm, Sweden
“Location wise”

Be sure to put this place into your Stockholm walking tour. Really nice surrounding and quiet location will help you visualize the pass of time.

Uppsala Castle (Uppsala Slott)

Rikssalen, Uppsala, Sweden  Website
“Alright”

3 of 5 stars

No, this is not the kind of castle that looks like Cinderella's. It doesn't even remind of some GameOfThrones-like.
BUT, it is worth seeing if you're already here. Looked like some low-profile mid-European noble house to me, no decoration, no big architecture, no "oomph". And not meant in a bad way, I just had that feeling. So climb up, walk the round way, take a look of magnificent panorama of Uppsala and go for lunch somewhere.

Vondelpark, Amsterdam

Van Baerlestraat & Vondelpark / Museum Quarter, Amsterdam, Netherlands
“Silent”

Huge park in the middle of the city, very green and lot of water, provides peace and calm to everyday busy routine. Come here to get some silence, read your book, make a picnic or just a walk or bike ride. Shadowy and sunny at the same time, warm and fresh, it might be great to visit if you have kids.

Leidseplein/Square , Leiden

Leidsestraat / Weteringschans, Amsterdam, Netherlands
“Cool place to begin....”

....your night. There's something for everyone, but like most of such places all around the world it's the youngsters that are the loudest. Not as wild as Magalouf, it's like bigger brother of all Mediterranean city bar-streets. Not for all night fun.

Flower market, Amsterdam

Singel Canal/Between Koningsplein and Muntplein, Amsterdam, Netherlands
“Interesting to see but...”

...yes, a bit touristy. In march everything was full of flowers, whatever you'd like. I thought of buying some lemon-tree bonsai or cannabis plant (for the sake of showing-off, not what you meant), but finally just bought 2 bags of tulip bulbs for my dad's garden. There's a plenty of it to choose, even some really exotic plants and seeds. Go through it in 20 minutes and move on.

Dam Square, Amsterdam

Dam Square (end of Damrak), Amsterdam, Netherlands
“Central square”

When you come somewhere, you got to have a starting point. Usually it is the main city square. In Amsterdam, main square somehow lacks the atmosphere and that little something. Not that it wasn't crowded, not that it isn't big, not that it hasn't nice architecture around....just something isn't there. Go see it yourself and be the judge.

New church, Amsterdam

Dam square, Amsterdam, The Netherlands
“No glamour”

3 of 5 stars

Like most of protestant temples this one also lacks decoration and glamour. Doesn't hold religious service, works as a cultural center. I visited during interesting exhibition of works done by art students. Good to see the tendencies, and where it's heading to. Go if you have a surplus of one hour and 8 euros.

Kastri restaurant taverna, Kos

Kefalos, Kos island, Greece
“Good lunch on the beach”

Shady beach taverna and bar with relaxed atmosphere. Good food. We had kokkinisto and shrimp saganaki with cabbage salad. Cabbage was served with a piece of lemon, just the way I like. Saganaki was a bit greasy, but tasty overall. Kokkinisto is served with rice and french fries (!?!?!), who knows what was in cook's head. Drunken english-speaking ladies stagger around with mugs and bottles, so it's a plus for fun and laugh.

Roman odeon, Kos

Leof. Grigoriou V Street, Kos Town, Greece
“Small lil' one”

Small roman odeon in the southern border of Kos town. Very well preserved, good to see the construction and skills of ancient Romans. Take couple of photos, and fool around on the stage as an ancient drama queen.

Taverna Katerina

Camel Beach/Agios Stefanos, Kefalos , Kos island,  Greece
“Beach food”

On-the-beach-taverna, also approachable from the main road to Kefalos. Looks pretty developed, since it is established in the 80s. Lovely terrace with shadow and mild sea breeze. I know some people will crucify me for this, but main thing to change- VERY annoying traditional music, and I say that as someone who really enjoys greek sounds and other forms of traditional music. We took two Katerina salads (strange mix of greek salad with crusty bread, pickeled basil (!!!!!) and cheese kept in red wine (whatahell!?!?!). With one soda, it was 15 euros. For those who prefer harder meals, there's a plenty of meat and fish on the menu, although some of it suspected frozen. Verdict- good enough for a lunch if you're on the neighboring beach, not so much if not.

Manneken Pis, Brussels

Corner of rue du Chene and rue de l'Etuve, Brussels, Belgium

“Little vandal”

A small bronze statue thought to represent the "irreverent spirit" of Brussels. Whatever, it is one of the most visited attractions in Brussels, without which your Brussels trip wouldn't be complete. Although totally uninteresting and small in scale, this should be on your track (it stands in central area), at least for the sake of fame it has.

Jeanneke Pis, Brussels

Prinsengalerij, Brussels, Belgium

“Piss' Counterpart”

3 of 5 stars

Yes, one step forward in the ridiculous direction and voila! here's La Piss, the female counterpart of Mannekin Piss. You'll wander around looking for it - this little creature sits in a short side street. Erected in 1987, this small statue of limestone depicts a little girl with her hair in short pigtails, squatting and urinating. It is located on the east side of the Impasse de la Fidélité / Getrouwheidsgang (Fidelity Alley), a narrow cul-de-sac some 30 metres long leading northwards off the restaurant-packed Rue des Bouchers / Beenhouwersstraat. It is less well known than its male counterpart, being a new addition instead of a centuries-old symbol of the city. The sculpture is now protected by iron bars.

Place des Martyrs, Brussels

Rue St. Michel, Brussels, Belgium
“not really an attraction”

Alright, this is the place you don't really have to visit, it is more like a quiet place to sit at. There's no cafes or restaurants or anything, just a pretty empty space for remembering (Martyrs). So not really "Have-to-be-in-my-itinerary" kind of thing.

Veldstraat en Bagattenstraat, Ghent

Veldstraat, Ghent , Belgium  Website
“You'll find it here”

Yap! You will.
All shopping in Ghent is located here, so if you really, really need to go shopping instead of wasting your time on beautiful city center, go here. All major brands in clothes, electronics, cosmentics etc. have their money-eating caves here, so rush rush here's a chance to spend your money and time on something you may find everywhere else, instead of taking unique walk in something really worth.

Plein, The Hague

Plein, The Hague, The Netherlands

“Plein is really plain”

I didn't get the fascination of some people with the square. Big plain plaza with historical buildings surrounding it, located next to the seat of the government. Yes, people are sitting in the cafes and restaurant, having beer, watching other people but this SO NOT the people-watching like in Paris and Rome. Something is missing.
