My last summer

As with food and my travel destinations, I am very picky with movies and tv. No matter how curious I am, some things just don't get my attention. On the other hand, some un-advertised shows without tit-flashing appear on my tv. Last year I watched "My last summer" UK Channel 4's four episodes reality/documentary, and was surprised on the brutality of the idea, and the human side of the result.

So, what we got is five terminally ill people, gathered together in a country house to discuss their illness and facing the death. Put that way, you'll probably click "Next post" button, but wait! It isn't some dark, pathetic, scripted story on people who are losing the battle with life. Nope! In modern culture where death is celebrated in various forms (from Honey Boo Boo death of brain cells to Hannibal's wicked dinners) this is fresh new view to one of the last remaining taboos.

You'll see how they deal with the diagnosis that leads to inevitable, with the unexpected reactions of own body, with people around them and with their own life expectancy. All packed up in four emotional stories not of death but of life itself, it also breaks our own prejudice on everyone's worst fear.

So the next time you sympathize with Snooki's dress drama, remember this, maybe you'll understand why she cries.
